Borders, the troubled Ann Arbor-based book store chain, confirmed Friday that it will close 17 under-performing superstores nationwide, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press.
The only Michigan store on the list is on Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills, a Borders spokesperson told the Detroit Free Press.
Multiple other media reports from other markets indicate that superstore closings include: Santa Barbara, Calif.; Nassau Park, NJ; downtown Portland, Ore.; Marlton, NJ.
The company announced this month that it launched a redesigned website in a concerted effort to boost its online sales as the critical holiday season dawns.
Sales at Borders continue to fall, with the company posting a net loss of $46.7 million at the end of the second quarter.
