Welcome to the BBC iPlayer diagnostics page.
This page provides information on your broadband connection speed, and helpful tips to optimise your enjoyment of BBC iPlayer.
To get a true test of your connection speed, please first close down all other applications that may be accessing the internet, including any active iPlayer downloads.
What you can do
- Instead of playing a programme within the BBC iPlayer web site try downloading the programme using BBC iPlayer Desktop. After the programme has successfully downloaded to the computer playout will not be dependent on your internet connection.
- Try again later - Often slow connections are temporarily caused by a high volume of internet users at peak times, especially on Sunday evenings.
- Check your internet package - You may consider upgrading your broadband internet package if you regularly experience difficulties. Consult with your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
- Corporate networks - If you are using the service from a business check with your computer administrator as some businesses restrict the volume of traffic available.

If you regularly experience problems playing video, or would like to limit the amount of bandwidth that you like BBC iPlayer to use, select the low bandwidth option wherever you see the video player on the site.
