Michelle Obama appears on The Simpsons

Michelle Obama has been immortalised in cartoon form after featuring in the latest episode of The Simpsons.

Dressed in purple and wearing pearls, Michaell Obama flew into Springfield High School to give the kids, including Lisa, an inspirational speech

The US First Lady makes a brief appearance in the long-running animated sitcom in an episode called Stealing First Base, which was broadcast on Sunday.

Although depicted in the latest instalment, Mrs Obama played no part herself, with her voice-over being provided by actress Angela Bassett.

The episode sees Lisa blogging about being ostracised at school because she is an academic high achiever.

Her post is noted by a mysterious blogger known as FLOTUS1, who turns out to be Mrs Obama.

Mrs Obama then visits Springfield Elementary to give a speech about the importance of academics and recommends that the students be nice to Lisa and other high achievers.

The First Lady joins a host of other celebrities who have appeared on the show since it hit screens in 1989.

Famous people depicted over the years have included figures from the political world, such a former US president Bill Clinton, while the likes of musicians Chris Martin and Sir Paul McCartney have made guest appearances.

Stealing First Base is the 15th episode of the 21st series of The Simpsons.
