Government Trying to Sweep Size of Oil Spill Under the Rug, Just As It Has Tried to Sweep the Economic Crisis, 9/11 and All Other Crises Under the Rug

As I previously pointed out, the Gulf oil spill is very similar to 9/11, because - in both cases - the responders helping with rescue and clean up were getting sick ... but were told they don't need any safety gear. And see this.

In addition, the government is keeping scientists away from "ground zero" of the oil spill and - for that reason - scientists cannot accurately measure the size of the oil spill.

BP has also tried to cover up its blunders by lowballing spill estimates, keeping reporters out of areas hardest hit by the oil (and see this, this, this and this) and threatening to arrest them if they try to take pictures (and see this), hiding dead birds and other sealife, and using dispersants to hide the amount of spilled oil (the dispersants are only worsening the damage caused by the spill).

The government is complicit in all of these cover-ups. Indeed, the Obama administration has made it a felony to get near enough to oiled wildlife and beaches to film them.

Similarly, the official 9/11 investigators were themselves largely denied funding, access to the site and the evidence contained there, or even access to such basic information as the blueprints for the world trade center.

Indeed, just as the government and BP have consistently underestimated the amount of oil gushing out of the Gulf, the blueprints for the World Trade Center are still to this day being withheld from reporters and the public, and the government agency in charge of the investigation has grossly mischaracterized the structure of the buildings.

How are we supposed to improve building safety regulations if the blueprints are still being hidden from engineers and scientists investigating the collapse of world trade center buildings 1, 2 and 7 on September 11th?

Moreover, as I previously pointed out:

9/11 Commission co-chairs Thomas Keane and Lee Hamilton wrote:

Those who knew about those videotapes — and did not tell us about them — obstructed our investigation.

[Moreover]:

  • The chairs of both the 9/11 Commission and the Joint Inquiry of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees into 9/11 said that government "minders" obstructed the investigation into 9/11 by intimidating witnesses
  • The 9/11 Commissioners concluded that officials from the Pentagon lied to the Commission, and considered recommending criminal charges for such false statements
  • Investigators for the Congressional Joint Inquiry discovered that an FBI informant had hosted and even rented a room to two hijackers in 2000 and that, when the Inquiry sought to interview the informant, the FBI refused outright, and then hid him in an unknown location, and that a high-level FBI official stated these blocking maneuvers were undertaken under orders from the White House. As the New York Times notes:
Senator Bob Graham, the Florida Democrat who is a former chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, accused the White House on Tuesday of covering up evidence . . .

    * * *

The accusation stems from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's refusal to allow investigators for a Congressional inquiry and the independent Sept. 11 commission to interview an informant, Abdussattar Shaikh, who had been the landlord in San Diego of two Sept. 11 hijackers.

In his book "Intelligence Matters," Mr. Graham, the co-chairman of the Congressional inquiry with Representative Porter J. Goss, Republican of Florida, said an F.B.I. official wrote them in November 2002 and said "the administration would not sanction a staff interview with the source.'' On Tuesday, Mr. Graham called the letter "a smoking gun" and said, "The reason for this cover-up goes right to the White House."

Of course, the government's response to the economic crisis, torture, the anthrax attacks, and just about every other crisis has been the same: try to sweep it under the rug.

It almost seems as if the main activity of government these days is trying to cover up criminal negligence and fraud ... instead of actually solving problems, firing - let alone convicting - the folks who caused the problems, or changing things enough to prevent future crises.

Fussy eaters could be classed as having an eating disorder

They are the nightmare guests at dinner parties. But picky eaters have no control over what they like and could be suffering from an eating disorder, according to psychologists.

US researchers are considering giving picky eaters an official classification for the first time and plan to put them in the same bracket as those who have anorexia and bulimia.

Being a picky eater is commonly seen as a childhood phase. However, the behaviour can extend into adulthood

Being a picky eater is commonly seen as a childhood phase. However, the behaviour can extend into adulthood

Being a picky eater does not carry the same health risks as conditions like bulimia but doctors worry that over the long term it could lead to nutritional deficiencies and cause bone and heart problems.

To reflect the concerns, members of the American Psychological Association plan to label them ‘selective eaters’ and put them in the ‘not otherwise specified’ category of eating disorders.

They will make their decision for the next edition of the respected Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

Although considered by many to be a phase that children go though, thousands of adults are picky eaters and place strict limits on what goes into their mouths.

Research into the reasons why has been inconclusive although it is thought textures and smell could account for it.

Scientists have also speculated that a mild form of obsessive-compulsive disorder may play a part.

In the US, such is the level of interest that researchers at Duke University and the University of Pittsburgh have just started the first national public registry of picky eating which will allow people to log in and report on their unusual eating preferences and habits.

Typical of those affected by ‘selective eating’ is Bob Krause, 63, who runs an online support site called PickyEatingAdults.com that has 1,400 active members.

Mr Krause, who lives in Virginia Beach in Virginia, considered himself a ‘social leper’ who would not stay over at friends houses because of his eating habits.

Even now he will not go to someone's house before 7:30 pm in order to avoid any chance of being invited to eat dinner.

Other picky eaters frequently report problems with ready-made food such as sandwiches which contain mayonnaise but do not put it on the labelling, or have to ask that food in restaurants be cooked a certain way.

Picky eaters tend to gravitate to certain foods, including blander products that are often white or pale colored, like plain pasta or cheese pizza.

For reasons that aren't clear, almost all adult picky eaters like French fries and often chicken fingers, health experts say.

Frances Burrows, of British eating disorder charity Beat, said they regularly received calls from parents and adults about picky eating.

He said: ‘It tips over into a disorder when it becomes a problem to do with body image and how an individual perceives themselves.

‘One of the symptoms of anorexia nervosa is that a person has abnormal expectations of their body weight, for example.

‘Conditions such as anorexia develop due to very specific reasons whilst selective eating is usually something that people go through as a child, so there is something of a difference to picky eating.

'We get a lot of parents ringing up asking if there is something wrong with their child if they are only eating certain foods, and if you are in any doubt, it is best to seek advice.’

Heat islands: Cities heat quickly, cool slowly

NEW YORK (AP) -- Hot town, summer in the city? No kidding.

The high temperatures blanketing the Northeast and mid-Atlantic regions of the country are making many people miserable, but those in New York City, Philadelphia and other dense, built-up areas are getting hit with the heat in a way their counterparts in suburbs and rural areas aren't.

Cities absorb more solar energy during the day and are slower to release it after the sun sets, making for uncomfortable nights and no real relief from the heat. And because they haven't cooled down as much overnight, mornings are warmer and the thermometer goes right back up when the sun starts beating down the next day.

Scientists have known for years about so-called heat islands, urban areas that are hotter than the less-developed areas around them.

Cities are just "not well designed to release that summertime heat," said William Solecki, geography professor at Hunter College and director of the City University of New York's Institute for Sustainable Cities.

The lack of nighttime relief can make the daytime high temperatures even more difficult for people to take as the days pass and the heat continues, he said.

That's "where you start to have real problems, if your body's not cooling down," Solecki said. "You're not getting that break."

Deaths blamed on the heat included a 92-year-old Philadelphia woman whose body was found Monday and a homeless woman found lying next to a car Sunday in suburban Detroit.

The heat-islands effect is significant in the East because "we have a large population living in heavily built-up areas with lots of concrete and lots of steel, good absorbers of heat," National Weather Service spokesman Sean Potter said.

And there's nothing like the extreme heat of the past couple of days to make it obvious to everyone.

On Tuesday, the temperature hit 103 degrees in New York City and 102 in Philadelphia, soared past the century mark in Boston, Washington, D.C., and Newark, N.J., and broke records in Providence, R.I., and Hartford, Conn.

The heat-island effect occurs because cities, with their numerous building surfaces and paved roads, absorb more of the solar energy coming from the sun during the day than places that are less built up. At night, those types of surfaces don't release that accumulated energy as quickly.

Cities also are very dry places, due to the lack of greenery and vegetation that could help bring moisture into the area and keep temperatures down, said Stuart Gaffin, an associate research scientist at Columbia University who focuses on urban climatology and environment.

All that combines to make cities risker places for people during times of extreme heat, he said.

"For me," Gaffin said, "this is the scariest kind of weather."

Heatwave In Philadelphia

New high temperature records have been set for Philadelphia:

RECORD EVENT REPORT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOUNT HOLLY NJ

...RECORD TEMPERATURES AT PHILADELPHIA PA WEDNESDAY JULY 7 2010...

A RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 103 DEGREES WAS SET AT PHILADELPHIA PA
ON WEDNESDAY JULY 7TH. THAT BROKE THE OLD RECORD OF 98 SET IN 1994.

THE WARMEST TEMPERATURES EVER AT PHILADELPHIA WERE 106 ON AUGUST 7
1918. IT WAS 104 ON JULY 3 1966 AND JULY 10 1936 FOLLOWED BY THE
103 HERE YESTERDAY WHICH ALSO OCCURRED IN SEVERAL OTHER YEARS.

ADDITIONALLY THE LOW OF 80 YESTERDAY WAS ALSO A RECORD WARM MINIMUM
TEMPERATURE FOR THE DATE...SURPASSING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 79 IN
1999.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 91.5 YESTERDAY WAS 4TH WARMEST IN
PHILADELPHIA WEATHER HISTORY DATING BACK TO 1872. THE WARMEST
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 94 DEGREES ON AUGUST 7 1918.

THE TWO CONSECUTIVE DAYS OF 100 DEGREE HEAT WAS THE 4TH WARMEST TWO
DAY PERIOD FOR PHILADELPHIA.

Charles Peirce kept detailed temperature records for Philadelphia from 1790 to 1847

This is what he wrote about July, 1830:

The medium or average temperature of this month was 80; and it was an intensely hot month. At mid-day the mercury rose to 90 and above, on twelve days.

So far this July, Philadelphia has had five days over 90, and the average temperature has been 80.

July, 2010 has been very hot in Philadelphia so far. Just as hot as it was 180 years ago – during the Little Ice Age when CO2 levels were 280 ppm.

BREAKING: America's Militias Respond to 3-Day Muster Along Deteriorating Arizona Border

America's Militias Respond to 3-Day Muster Along Deteriorating Arizona Border
SoCal Martial Law Alerts
July 9, 2009

KAWEAH, California -- SoCal Martial Law Alerts (SCMLA) interviewed Dutch Joens, host of the Dutch Joens Radio Program, who discussed a call that recently went out to America's militias to muster for at least three days near Arizona's troubled border with Mexico.

According to Joens, an Arizona militia sent a request out to the nation's Constitutional militias to help secure a 50-mile section of Arizona's southernmost border for at least three days. The three-day period is to begin on the evening of July 9, 2010 and will extend at least until July 12, 2010. The 50-mile section of border to be protected extends approximately 80 miles inland from Arizona's southernmost border and is being used as a "dry port" by Mexican cartels to facilitate drug smuggling, human trafficking, etc. into America.

"This isn't a political action per se. This is a reaction to an invasion," Joens said.

"There are more beheadings along the border than there are in Iraq and Afghanistan and all the Arab countries put together, but the media won't report it," said Joens. "People have their relatives kidnapped. They pay the ransom and then they're delivered in a 50-gallon drum in parts. So, we're on the border of a third-world nation that is exporting its violence on us and we need to do something to stop it."

Joens stated that the "mission" of the operation is to shut the illegal border crossing down for at least three days, because "if we can do it, the federal government has no excuse."

On June 16, 2010, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu stated that Arizona needs "support from the federal government. It’s their job to secure the border and they haven’t done it. In fact, President Obama suspended the construction of the fence and it’s just simply outrageous.”

On June 18, 2010, Arizona Republican Senator Jon Kyl told a local Tea Party audience that President Obama had said in a private conversation that he would not secure America's southern border until the "immigration reform" law is passed. “In other words, they’re holding it hostage," Kyl said, "They don’t want to secure the border unless and until it is combined with ‘comprehensive immigration reform.’”

During SCMLA's interview with Joens, which took place on June 27, 2010, he told viewers that he's "hoping that by the time you hear this, we'll have five, six, seven hundred militia guys from across the country down there. They're coming from Michigan, Oregon, all over. We're sending a small contingent, because we're a small militia. But if somebody can just send one person ... "

At the conclusion of the interview, Joens gave instructions on how anyone can help, even if they are not able to travel to Arizona.

How did Jefferson know?

John F. Kennedy held a dinner in the white House for a group of the
brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made this statement:
"This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to
gather at one time in the White House with the exception of
when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."
Especially read the last quote from 1802.

When we get piled
upon one another in large cities, as in Europe,
we shall become as corrupt as Europe .
Thomas Jefferson

The democracy will cease to exist
when you take away from those
who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
Thomas Jefferson

It is incumbent on every
generation to pay its own debts as it goes.
A principle which if acted on would save
one-half the wars of the world.
Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for
Americans if they can prevent the government
from wasting the labors of the people under the
pretense of taking care of them.
Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me
that most bad government results from too much
government.
Thomas Jefferson

No free man shall ever be debarred
the use of arms.
Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the
people to retain the right to keep and bear arms
is, as a last resort, to protect themselves
against tyranny in government.
Thomas Jefferson

The tree of liberty must be
refreshed from time to time with the blood of
patriots and tyrants.
Thomas Jefferson

To compel a man to subsidize with
his taxes the propagation of ideas which he
disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.
Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:
'I believe that
banking institutions are more dangerous to
our liberties than standing armies.
If the American people ever allow
private banks to control the issue of their
currency, first by inflation, then by
deflation, the banks and corporations that will
grow up around the banks will deprive the people
of all property - until their children
wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers
conquered.'
