Tea Party Candidates, Women Roar in Primary Election Night

The primary elections Tuesday amounted to a night of messages -- from the Tea Party, from female candidates and for the Democrats.

With hundreds of primaries held across 11 states, a number of candidates made history while others pulled out come-from-behind wins. The elections helped set the stage for a November general election in which incumbents are girding for a series of hard-fought battles.

In California, the Republican Party has placed two women at the top of its ticket for the first time, nominating former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina for Senate and former eBay CEO Meg Whitman for governor.

Fiorina told Fox News on Wednesday that she's been "itching" for the general election fight against incumbent Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer for a while.

"It really feels great to be here on Wednesday morning and able to take her on ... As of today, game on, Barbara," she said.

State Rep. Nikki Haley moved a step closer to her goal of becoming South Carolina's first female governor, advancing into a runoff with her top competitor. After a bruising primary in which two men claimed they had affairs with her, Haley blew away her competition with 49 percent of the vote; she was forced into a runoff with Rep. Gresham Barrett, who won 22 percent, only because she did not clear the 50-percent threshold.

The big save of the night came in Arkansas, where Sen. Blanche Lincoln defied expectations by beating Democratic primary challenger Lt. Gov. Bill Halter in a runoff. She moves on to a tough general election battle for her seat.

And in Nevada, Tea Party-backed candidate Sharron Angle claimed a decisive victory after surging in the polls against a more established GOP competitor in the final weeks of the race.

Angle took 40 percent of the vote to 26 percent for Sue Lowden, a former state GOP chairwoman. Businessman Danny Tarkanian won 23 percent.

Angle will face off against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the fall. Though polls have shown Reid's popularity at rock-bottom levels, Democrats are overjoyed that Angle won, saying her conservative stances on the issues are far outside the mainstream

Angle, in her victory speech, thanked the Tea Party for its support and promised Reid a tough race.

"We are going to dump Harry Reid on Nov. 2," she said.

Other top Democrats are in for a challenging contest in November following the results of Tuesday's elections.

While Boxer will face off against Fiorina, former Gov. Jerry Brown, seeking to reclaim his old job, is poised to battle Whitman.

BP buys top Google search result for 'oil spill'

BP has bought the top Google and Yahoo! search result for terms like "oil spill" in a bid to recover its public image following the massive oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico.

The oil company, which is under fire over its role in one of the worst ecological disasters in US history, has purchased the news results in an attempt to stem the tide of criticism on internet sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

A search for the term "oil spill" on Tuesday night brought up a link to BP's website with the tagline: “Learn more about how BP is helping.”

But the move has only succeeded in provoking further criticism. The Google adverts have become the target of a mock BP Twitter feed with the tag BPGlobalPR, which was already attracted more than 140,000 followers.

“We're paying Google a lot of money to make sure you only have access to the best possible info on the oil spill: our info,” one tweet reads.

Toby Odone, a BP spokesman, said the company's goal in buying the search results was to make information on the leak more accessible.

“We have bought search terms on search engines like Google to make it easier for people to find out more about our efforts in the Gulf and make it easier for people to find key links to information on filing claims, reporting oil on the beach and signing up to volunteer,” he said.

Barack Obama, the US president, said on Monday that he was seeking "ass to kick" over the leak, which has left 20,000 barrels of oil gushing out of the damaged well each day.

Question War-This One and the Next and the Ones Before

Including Current War on Terror
Question War
This one and the next and the ones before

The vast amounts of money and resources that are robbed by militarism and warfare must be channeled into healing our global community and environment, rather than enforcing a corrupt, exploitive and devastating system of domination for profit. Humanity can do much better than this.

This War is consistent with centuries of wars waged for profit and domination. It should be obvious that Iraq is merely the continuation of standard US foreign policy. Wars are forced upon naturally peace-seeking peoples with deceptive and coercive tactics by a small minority ruling class. The lies of today follow the same time-tested formula used by governments to gain support from the people to pay for and die for greed-driven agendas that run completely counter to claims of security, freedom, democracy, humanitarian intervention etc. George Bush is only the latest in a string of presidents to cloak aggression in idealistic rhetoric. Killing in the name of democracy has a long and terrible history...

It is critical that we see the larger agenda beyond the current conflict so that peace activism does not continue to protest one war after another without addressing the fundamental and systemic causes that have persisted unchallenged for a very long time.

Both Democrats and Republicans are in service to the War System (and the economic powers it services) and, as history has shown, it makes no real difference which party is in power at the national level; the agenda advances without pause. The wars continue and Congress always votes its approval. The difference is style, rhetoric, and issues tailored to toy with public opinion and controversy without affecting any real substantive change, let alone transformation. The Democrats give us a softer multi-lateral Imperialism while the Republicans favor a harder, unilateral approach. While the voting public is distracted by the political process (political theatre), the interventions and killing continue.
The Liberal Holocaust.

While there are many factors and players involved in the complexities of starting and running a war such as militarism, racism, patriotism, nationalism, etc, the fundamental cause and directing force is cold/calculated planning by a small group of people in positions of political and economic power. The nature of this power structure has evolved over centuries into its present form: Global Capitalism - pervasive global profiteering and control by transnational corporations. After World War II the United States assumed the role of chief military enforcer of this system. US foreign policy is entirely in service to protecting and furthering its insatiable appetite. The same dominator forces that marked the world with conquest, colonialism, genocide of native peoples, and slavery are still at work in this latest evolution of Institutionalized Greed. Empire, Imperialism, Plutocracy, Global Capitalism. This is the system running the world today. The awful truth is ignored by the media and untouched in education and public discourse.

Now we are in a time of great urgency of action and need for deep transformative change. We are facing serious issues domestically and globally that must be addressed immediately with the full might of our individual and collective desire for a just and sustainable world. The vast amounts of money and resources that are currently diverted towards militarism and warfare must be channeled into taking care of our global community and environment, rather than enforcing a corrupt, oppressive, exploitive and devastating system of domination and profit.

Civil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is that numbers of people all over the world have obeyed the dictates of the leaders of their government and have gone to war, and millions have been killed because of this obedience. . . Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war, and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves, and all the while the grand thieves are running the country. That's our problem. – Howard Zinn, 1970

War is Waged with Lies

Naturally, the common people don't want war ... it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country.
– Hermann Goering

The size of the lie is a definite factor in causing it to be believed, for the vast masses of the nation are in the depths of their hearts more easily deceived than they are consciously and intentionally bad. The primitive simplicity of their minds renders them a more easy prey to a big lie than a small one, for they themselves often tell little lies but would be ashamed to tell a big one.

Gulf oil leak may be bigger than BP says

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- While BP is capturing more oil from its blown-out well with every passing day, scientists on a team analyzing the flow said Tuesday that the amount of crude still escaping into the Gulf of Mexico may be considerably greater than what the government and the company have claimed.

Their assertions -- combined with BP's rush to build a bigger cap and its apparent difficulty in immediately processing all the oil being collected -- have only added to the impression that the company is still floundering in dealing with the catastrophe.

The cap that was put on the ruptured well last week collected about 620,000 gallons of oil on Monday and another 330,000 from midnight to noon on Tuesday and funneled it to a ship at the surface, said Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, the government's point man on the crisis. That would mean the cap is capturing better than half of the oil, based on the government's estimate that around 600,000 to 1.2 million gallons a day are leaking from the bottom of the sea.

The undersea efforts came as BP Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles struck an upbeat tone about the anticipated progress of the oil containment in the next week. Suttles told The Associated Press in a stop in Alabama that the arrival of a second vessel in the coming days to help pump the oil from the deepwater gusher could help engineers make even more progress, even as others continued to criticize BP over its handling of the disaster.

A team of researchers and government officials assembled by the Coast Guard and run by the director of the U.S. Geological Survey is studying the flow rate and hopes to present its latest findings in the coming days on what is already the biggest oil spill in U.S. history.

In an interview with The Associated Press, team member and Purdue University engineering professor Steve Wereley said it was a "reasonable conclusion" but not the team's final one to say that the daily flow rate is, in fact, somewhere between 798,000 gallons and 1.8 million gallons.

"BP is claiming they're capturing the majority of the flow, which I think is going to be proven wrong in short order," Wereley said. "Why don't they show the American public the before-and-after shots?"

He added: "It's strictly an estimation, and they are portraying it as fact."

Other members of the team also told AP they expect their findings to show higher numbers than the current government estimate, but they weren't ready to say how much higher.

To install the containment device snugly, BP engineers had to cut away the twisted and broken well pipe. That increased the flow of oil, similar to what happens when a kink is removed from a garden hose. BP and others warned that would happen, and the government said the increase amounted to about 20 percent.

Asked about the containment effort and the uncertainties in estimating how much oil is escaping, Allen said: "I have never said this is going well. We're throwing everything we've got."

Paul Bommer, a University of Texas petroleum and geosystems engineering professor and member of the flow rate team, said cap seems to have made a "dent" in reducing the flow, but there is still a lot of oil coming out. That seemed clear from the underwater "spillcam" video, which continued to show a big plume of gas and oil billowing into the water.

The current equipment collecting the oil being brought to the surface is believed to be nearing its daily processing capacity. BP said it will boost capacity by bringing in a floating platform it believes can process most of the flow, and believes the extra pumping power can help reduce the spill even more by early next week, when President Barack Obama is scheduled to make his fourth visit to the Gulf since the disaster began.

The company also said it will use a device that vaporizes and burns off oil while working to design a new cap that can capture more crude.

Suttles initially said that the spill should be reduced to a "relative trickle" by Monday or Tuesday. BP later sought to clarify the comments by saying that even though the company is optimistic it can make measurable progress in the next week in reducing the flow, it will take more time to reach the point that the spill amounts to a trickle.

In the seven weeks since the oil rig explosion that set off the catastrophe, BP has had to improvise at every turn. The most recent government estimates put the total amount of oil lost at 23.7 million to 51.5 million gallons.

"I think virtually everybody from BP to the state to the Coast Guard was caught flat-footed and did not expect a spill of this magnitude," said Ed Overton, a professor of environmental sciences at Louisiana State University. "Everybody has been playing catch-up."

When asked why BP did not have containment systems on standby in case of a leak, BP spokesman Robert Wine said there was no reason to think an accident on this scale was likely.

"It's unprecedented," he said. "That's why these caps weren't there before."

Kenneth Arnold, an offshore drilling consultant and engineer, said the reason a bigger cap wasn't installed first was that BP probably wanted to start with what it could do quickly, which he said makes sense. He said BP has been working several solutions all along in parallel and deploying them as they can.

"They haven't been waiting for one to fail and then employing the next one," Arnold said.

He added: "The idea you can wave your arm at this and come to a magical solution is just from someone who doesn't understand the problem. We as a nation are used to instant gratification. There is a problem. We want someone to fix it tomorrow. Things are not always that easy."

Some answers may emerge next week, when BP CEO Tony Hayward will make his first appearance before Congress to answer questions in what will probably be a heated session, given the anger directed at BP.

The debate over the flow rate came as workers in bulldozers piled sand 6 feet high along barrier islands bordering Louisiana to protect the environmentally fragile areas from the spill, which has already coated islands and pelican rookeries in thick, brown, sticky crude.

"This is finally something that can help," fishing guide Dave Marino said of the sand barrier effort. "It looks like this is something that may work."

Attempts to skim the oil progressed as well. Boats fanned out across the Gulf, dragging boom in their wake in an attempt to corral the oil. But it's an enormous task.

In some spots, the oil is several inches thick and forms a brown taffy-like goo that sticks to everything it touches.

John Young, chairman of Louisiana's Jefferson Parish Council, said additional equipment has been ordered and more dredgers will be moving into the area soon, along with barges that will help block the passes.

"It's nice that BP has put up the money, but they need to ramp up not only the manpower but the equipment out there because we're losing the battle," Young said. "Unfortunately, we're on day 50 and it's too little too late, but I guess it's better late than never."

Meanwhile, researchers are beginning to obtain a clearer picture of the spill as they analyze water samples. For example, marine scientists found a 100-foot-thick layer of oil 1,300 feet below the surface about 45 miles from the well site. And officials in the Florida Panhandle are posting signs warning beachgoers not to swim or fish off a six-mile stretch of oil-fouled beaches near the Alabama state line -- the first time such restrictions have been imposed in the state since the spill began.

Harry R. Weber reported from Houston, Seth Borenstein from Washington, Jay Reeves in Gulf Shores, Ala., Tamara Lush from New Orleans, Brian Skoloff from Barataria Bay, La., and Mitch Stacy from St. Petersburg, Fla.

Time for law abiding American citizens to stop paying taxes, start a new government? 9 of 13

David Degraw has written an outstanding comprehensive explanation of what’s really happening in the US economy. He’s given me permission to reprint it here. I also recommend his site "For Our Economy" for citizen grass-roots activism for economic justice.

Regarding the title of Americans starting a new government, I remind readers of the Declaration of Independence; our core American principles of government. The below links document that US political “leadership” is not even close to following our constitutional limitations and therefore are “leading” unlawfully. Americans with an oath to defend the US Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, should choose to either honor their oath or admit allegiance to the current fascist imposter of the greatness this nation is on paper and in our ideals.
Another excellent summary is economist James Galbraith’s recent expert testimony to the US Senate Judiciary Committee of what will become “emperor has no clothes” obvious: the US economy is a rigged casino. Here is my best pitch to explain and document the fraud. Here is my best explanation of the obvious solutions. Here are my comprehensive resources to understand the US oligarchy in all its unlawful infamy in unlawful wars, war lies, torture and indefinite detention (including against Americans), and our controlled economic demolition.
I’ll present David’s documentation and analysis in 13 segments; each with his introduction. Use the “previous” and “next” buttons under the title to navigate to the different segments. Please share broadly with the understanding that all our economic problems really exist on paper only. They are propagandized and managed frauds; solved almost instantly by an economic structure designed for the public good rather than designed for an oligarchy. I stake my professional reputation on the factual reality of these statements and prove their objective existence in the data in the above links.
I appreciate David Degraw’s leadership to research and communicate the facts, and help us all embrace the terrible truth of US fascism that We the People must expose and end in order to unleash humanity and build a brighter future for all of us.
Look and verify for yourself. Res ipsa loquitur.
Is It Time for Law Abiding American Citizens to Stop Paying Their Taxes and Start a New Government?
By David DeGraw, AmpedStatus Report
The evidence is now overwhelming. The United States government has facilitated the theft of trillions of dollars of national wealth and 99% of the US population no longer has political representation.
Now that I have your attention, I want to make it clear to you that I am being rational and serious when I ask this question: Is it time for law abiding American citizens to stop paying their taxes and start a new government?
Before you roll your eyes and dismiss me as some “extremist,” let me explain the situation to those who are unfamiliar with my past reports. In my report on the Economic Elite Vs. The People of the United States, I lay out the case proving that our economy and tax system has become an organized criminal operation. I defy anyone who spends time researching and analyzing the facts and overwhelming evidence to support this claim to prove otherwise. I invite anyone who thinks I’m wrong to a debate on national television. I’m talking to you, Tim Geithner, Ben Bernanke, Larry Summers, Lloyd Blankfein, Jamie Dimon and President Obama!
I torturously spend 60 plus hours a week researching this and the torrent of devastating news and evidence is mounting by the minute. The staggering level of theft continues unabated. As I am watching this unfold, I am horrified thinking about the severe consequences that have only just begun to reap their toll. Our nation is being raped and pillaged. Our future is going up in flames and our government isn’t even making the slightest effort to put out the fire. In fact, they are purposely pouring gasoline all over it.
“There’s a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can’t take part. You can’t even passively take part. And you’ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you’ve got to make it stop. And you’ve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it that… the machine will be prevented from working at all.” – Mario Savio
So let me take a deep breath and back up for a minute… and explain the urgent gravity of our current crisis.
IX: $5.4 Trillion a Year Bullion Market Ponzi Scheme
Similar to the Inter Continental Exchange, the London Bullion Market (LBMA), also known as the precious metal market (PM), is a multi-trillion over-the-counter (OTC) market for gold and silver. Also similar to the hundreds of billions, possibly trillions, stolen through fraudulent transactions on the ICE market, a whistleblower named Andrew Maguire just came forward to expose JP Morgan’s manipulation of the PM market. As Tyler Durden put it on his brilliant website Zero Hedge:
“At this point none of this should be at all shocking, and the only thing that matters is when CFTC’s ex-Goldmanite Gary Gensler will be fired for allowing hundreds of billions of dollars to be sucked out of the PM market on behalf of such major market manipulating entities as JP Morgan and the New York Federal Reserve, for whom it transacts. Don’t worry - the answer to that rhetorical question is 'never', as it is the administration’s goal to make all the millionaires among the bulge bracket firms billionaires, via legalized theft from honest investors.”
Patrick A. Heller, writing on the NumisMaster website, summed it up this way:
"CFTC Gets Facts of Bullion Manipulation
… On March 23, 2010, GATA Director Adrian Douglas was contacted by a whistleblower by the name of Andrew Maguire. Maguire is a metals trader in London. He has been told first-hand by traders working for JPMorganChase that JPMorganChase manipulates the precious metals markets, and they have bragged to how they make money doing so.
In November 2009 Maguire contacted the CFTC enforcement division to report this criminal activity. He described in detail the way JPMorgan Chase signals to the market its intention to take down the precious metals. Traders recognize these signals and make money shorting the metals alongside JPM. Maguire explained how there are routine market manipulations at the time of option expiry, non-farm payroll data releases, and COMEX contract rollover, as well as ad-hoc events….
Now that this information about silver price manipulation and about the massive shortage of physical gold and silver on the London exchange is part of the official record, I expect huge fallout. Remember, after the five men were arrested for breaking into the Democratic headquarters in Watergate in June 1972, it took more than two years for President Nixon to resign. I don’t think it will take anywhere near this long for last Thursday’s revelations to blow back against the U.S. government and the U.S. dollar. Once the public realizes the extent of the manipulation, gold and silver prices are likely to skyrocket.
I think this hearing will be the beginning of the end for those trying to suppress gold and silver prices….”
Adrian Douglas, director of the Gold Anti-Trust Action Committee (GATA) recently described this Ponzi scheme:
“LBMA trades over 100 times the amount of gold it actually has to back the trades…. the giant Ponzi trading of gold ledger entries can be sustained only if there is never a liquidity crisis in the REAL physical market. If someone asks for gold and there isn’t any the default would trigger the biggest ‘bank run’ and default in history…. Almost every day we hear of a new financial fraud that has been exposed. The gold and silver market fraud is likely to be bigger than all of them. Investors in their droves, who have purchased gold in good faith in ‘unallocated accounts’, are going to demand delivery of their metal. They will then discover that there is only one ounce for every one hundred ounces claimed. They will find out they are ‘unsecured creditors’…. It is, as I asserted before the Commission, a giant Ponzi Scheme.”
So you better hurry up and claim your gold, because everyone knows what happens to the last people in on a Ponzi scheme, they always get screwed and lose everything.

Republican Jewish Coalition Hosts Birther Taitz As 'Special Guest' At Annual Bash

Witness the mainstreaming of Orly Taitz?

The longtime Birther agitator and dentist who is now running for the GOP secretary of state nomination in California was a "special guest" of the Republican Jewish Coalition at the group's "annual summer bash" at the Beverly Hills Hilton Sunday. Also in attendance: GOP heavyweights Karl Rove, former Senator Norm Coleman, and California Senate candidates Chuck DeVore and Carly Fiorina.

The program for the event, touted by Taitz on her website, lists about 15 "Special Guests" including Coleman, Reps. Connie Mack (R-FL), Mary Bono Mack (R-CA), Edward Royce (R-CA), and Taitz. Speakers included Rove, who gave the keynote and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) (with whom Taitz is already acquainted).

An RJC staffer confirmed the program posted by Taitz is authentic. RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks was not immediately available for comment.

Taitz, one of a few California GOP candidates at the event, came to the United States from Moldova by way of Israel. Her website is a leading source of conspiracy theories about President Obama, or, as she would call him, "the de facto President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama."
