Author Says G-20 Meeting in Scotland this Week about Dumping U.S. Dollar

Best-selling author Daniel Estulin states that the key issue to be discussed this week at the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting, being held in St. Andrews, Scotland, is how to bring down the present world financial system through dumping the US dollar.

(Vocus/PRWEB ) November 3, 2009 -- Best-selling author Daniel Estulin states that the key issue to be discussed this week at the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting, being held in St. Andrews, Scotland, is how to bring down the present world financial system through dumping the US dollar. Estulin first reported on this initiative as being deliberated at the most recent Bilderberg meeting held in Greece in May 2009. Estulin says that the success or failure of this callous plan hinges on the ability of the US and UK representatives to convince the Russian, the Chinese and other national governments to go along with their scheme.

Estulin maintains that if the co-conspirators succeed, such sudden devaluation of the US dollar would result in the sinking of the world economy through a chain-reaction collapse of the entire world’s financial system. As discussed during the Bilderberg Group’s super-secret conclave back in May, this breakdown would then be used as an excuse to launch a new world monetary system. G20 leaders are aware that those who run the monetary markets, the monetary system, control the world. That is why today, the world is run through a dominant one-currency monetary system and not by national credit systems.

A severe breakdown crisis would affect every corner of the world and be a prelude to instability, wars and general hostility along financial, geographical and geopolitical lines, affecting not only particular countries but also societies, cultures and whole continents. Such a breakdown could result in a consolidation of the world’s monetary system.

Estulin declares that the creation of the new world currency is the true meaning of globalization, which is nothing but an empire. It is the elimination of the nation-state, the degradation of individual national liberties and the depredation of civil rights.

Collapsing the US dollar, first of all, is an assault on the structure of the United States economy toward the creation of a “World Company.” This concept, Estulin states, was initially discussed at the April 1968 Bilderberg Group meeting, held in Canada at Mont Trembland, by George Ball, a senior Lehman Brothers banker and former undersecretary for economic affairs for Presidents John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson.

The aim of this World Company, as explained by Ball was “to eliminate the archaic political structure of nation-state” in favor of the more “modern” corporate structure. Ball also called for further political integration in Europe, and then the rest of the world, as a precondition for expanding the power of a World Company, thus putting the financiers on the same levels as governments.

This initiative, the moving away from the US dollar as a world currency, is the true intention of the G20 meeting November 6-7 at St. Andrews in Scotland, the site of the 1998 Bilderberg conference, Estulin asserts.

Zale also reported a fourth quarter net loss of $89.8 million, compared to a loss of $10.0 million in the fourth quarter in 2008. Revenues in the fourth quarter were $357.1 million, a decline of 21.7% compared to $456.2 million in last year's fourth quarter.

U.S. settles suit with Muslims in post-9/11 abuse

NEW YORK (Reuters) – The U.S. government will pay $1.26 million to five Muslim men detained for months without charges after the September 11 attacks who sued for unlawful imprisonment and abuse, their lawyers said on Tuesday.

The men claimed they suffered inhumane and degrading treatment in a Brooklyn detention center, including solitary confinement, severe beatings, incessant verbal abuse and a blackout on communications with their families and attorneys.

Rachel Meeropol, a lawyer for the Center for Constitutional Rights who brought the case in Brooklyn federal court, said it was the largest settlement so far for claims of abuse in the United States following the attacks of September 11, 2001.

The Justice Department agreed to settle the suit, which was filed in 2002 after hundreds of immigrants were rounded up and held for months following the attacks, according to the CCR.

A spokesman for the U.S. Justice Department was not immediately available to comment on the settlement, in which the U.S. government admits no liability or fault. The five men were all eventually released after being cleared of any connection to terrorism but then deported.

One of the men, Yasser Ebrahim, will receive the largest payout of $356,250 minus legal fees. "After seven long years, I am relieved to be able to rebuild my life," he said in a CCR statement.

"We were deprived of our rights and abused simply because of our religion and the color of our skin," he said. "I know that I and others are still affected by what happened and that communities in the U.S. continue to feel the fallout. I sincerely hope this will never happen again."

WELCOME TO AMERICA

Ebrahim, 37, who had a website design business in Brooklyn, and his plaintiff brother Hany, a deli worker, had lived in New York for several years before the September 11 attacks. They now live in Egypt.

The two were arrested on Sept 30, 2001, and held for eight months even after an FBI memo from December 7 stated they were cleared of links to terrorist groups, the lawsuit said.

A 2003 report by Justice Department's Office of the Inspector General found that some prison officers slammed detainees against walls, twisted their arms and hands in painful ways, stepped on their leg restraint chains and punished them by keeping them restrained for long periods.

The report said videotapes showed some detention center staff "misused strip searches and restraints to punish detainees and that officers improperly and illegally recorded detainees' meetings with their attorneys."

The lawsuit said some of the plaintiffs, upon entering the jail, had their faces smashed into a wall where a blood-smeared American flag T-shirt was taped and told "welcome to America," according to the lawsuit.

The other plaintiffs who settled are Ashraf Ibrahim who also now lives in Egypt, Pakistan native Asif-Ur-Rehman Saffi who now lives in France and former Pakistani physician Shakir Baloch who now lives in Canada.

The lawsuit, which sued top Bush administration officials including former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft, was one of many that accused the Bush administration of disregarding constitutional rights.

The claims against Ashcroft and others are continuing. The CCR is also seeking to bring claims on behalf of five new plaintiffs.

India dumps dollars for IMF gold - is China next in line?

The news that the IMF has sold virtually half the gold it has approved for sale to India surprised some observers although the growing Asian giant is, on reflection, a logical purchaser.

LONDON -

The IMF announcement yesterday that it had sold virtually half of its planned 403.3 tonnes of gold, destined to increase its resources for lending to low-income countries, to India came as something of a surprise to the market. Not perhaps that a Central Bank had made the purchase, but the hard money had been on China to do so, not India.

Indeed, the market seemed, in retrospect, little affected by the news of the sale, which apparently involved daily sales that were phased over a two week period during October 19-30, with each daily sale conducted at a price set on the basis of market prices prevailing that day. It reached around $1,066 an ounce before falling back initially this morning in Europe to just below $1,060 at the time of writing.

However, once the North Americam markets opened there has obviously been a different take on the Indian purchase with the goldprice moving up sharpl to hit a new record over $1,080.

One suspects that when the news really sinks in it will be positive for the gold price with at least a part of a significant prospective overhang being taken out of the marketplace. It would also seem likely that the IMF is negotiating with other Central Banks for the sale of the remaining 203.3 tonnes of gold. The IMF said in its press release that it "is standing ready for an initial period to sell gold directly to Central Banks and other official holders that may be interested in such sales." Under the Fund's Articles of Agreement, all gold sales must be conducted at prices based on market prices, including direct sales to official holders as in the case of this transaction.

Perhaps surprisingly, among observers Chris Powell of GATA expresses some caution over the sale. In a note he says "But whether the Reserve Bank of India will use the gold for market intervention, open or surreptitious, is another question, and such use must be suspected. After all, India is the biggest market for gold, and the transfer of IMF gold to India could facilitate the dampening of that market if the Reserve Bank of India is inclined to try intervention to support the rupee or the U.S. dollar."

In effect though the sale may actually undermine the dollar in the short term. Reuters reports that an IMF official said that the sale was concluded at an average price of about $1,045 an ounce and that the transaction would be paid in hard currency and not in IMF Special Drawing Rights. This effectively means US dollars as India's reserves are reportedly mostly held in U.S. Treasuries. Given the perceived continuing weakness of the U.S. dollar this would seem a logical move by India where the gold proportion of its $285.5 billion gold and currency reserves had slipped back to only 3.7%. 15 years earlier gold had accounted for 20.86% of the country's reserves. Even with the addition of the 200 tonnes - at this morning's gold price - the country still only holds about 6.3% of its reserves in gold. For a country where gold ownership is built into the national psyche this seems a very small proportion.

What faces the market now is what will happen to the remainder of the IMF gold overhang. There have been unconfirmed reports that China is in discussions with the Fund, but also speculation that there are a number of other countries which might also be interested in boosting their reserves by purchasing all, or some, of the remaining amount scheduled for sale. No other countries keep anything like the proportion of their reserves in gold that the U.S. and some key European countries do. With a growing distrust of paper currencies it would be logical for others to follow India's lead.

Given both China and India are both allowing state institutions to peddle small gold bars and coins to the general populace as a good investment (see: China pushes silver and gold investment to the masses and In India even the Post Office sells gold coins) supporting the market in terms of gold purchases would seem to be a sensible move, particularly given both economies are relatively strong, while the West and Japan remain in economic turmoil. China may be quietly building its own reserves anyway through purchasing domestically mined gold - it is now the world's top producer. It may also make sense for other countries - mainly in the Far East and Middle East, where gold has always been an important element in wealth preservation among monied individuals, to follow suit - not only by buying from the IMF, but also building holdings by small and steady purchases in the open market. This may already be happening given the considerable support being seen for gold every time it dips back a little from its recently much higher levels.

As GOP Holds Up Unemployment Extension, Nearly 200,000 Lose Their Benefits

In the world outside the Senate, time is money; inside it, time is everything. Senate Republicans are taking full advantage of that reality, using every parliamentary device at their disposal to slow down an extension of unemployment insurance benefits -- even after Democrats added billions for big business to sweeten the pot.

The saga is a cast study both in the difficulty of passing even popular legislation in the Senate and the lengths to which the GOP is going to slow down the process.

The extension overwhelmingly passed the House 331-83 in late September. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) made a motion to pass it by unanimous consent in early October; it was blocked by GOP objections.

After negotiations, Reid filed for cloture on Oct. 21 to break a GOP filibuster. On October 27, the Senate voted 87-13 on a motion to proceed to consider the bill, breaking the filibuster.

But under Senate rules, the GOP is still allowed 30 hours of "debate." There actually isn't much debate, but the clock is ticking while senators take to the floor to make speeches about whatever they like.

To get things moving, Democrats sweetened the pot, adding in billions in tax breaks for business -- a net operating loss carry-back provision that the GOP has long favored -- and an extension of the homebuyer tax credit. Reid introduced the goodies in a substitute amendment with Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), a champion of the business tax break.

"The two were put together as a means of greasing the skids. You know how things work around here," Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) told HuffPost. "Could we have gotten UI through otherwise? Yes, we could have, but it would have taken us several days. And we don't have that kind of time. And the minority is then able to, because of the time, demand certain things."

The skids properly greased, Reid filed for cloture again on Oct. 29th. It came to a vote Monday night, Nov. 2nd, where it passed 85-2.

Still, the GOP fights, requesting that the 30 more hours of "debate" elapse. That'll take the Senate to late Tuesday night. If Reid invokes cloture again to proceed to the underlying bill, another 30 hours would take the Senate to Thursday morning at the earliest for -- at last -- a vote on the bill itself.

Following such overwhelming votes, a measure usually passes the Senate by a quick voice vote. "The common practice is when you get cloture on motion to proceed, you quickly allow it to pass," says Jim Manley, senior communications adviser for Reid.

Manley and other Democratic aides argued that the goodies given to big business are acceptable to Democrats as ways to boost the economy rather than pure giveaways. The first-time homebuyer tax credit is wildly popular and Democrats had planned to pass it at some point before it expired at the end of the month.

"There are only so many ways to strengthen the economy that can get 60 votes and get enacted quickly -- these happen to be two of them," said Manley.

The GOP says it's been working constructively with Reid. "Sen. McConnell offered to complete the bill last week on Thursday. Sen. Reid objected," said Don Stewart, a spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

The objection came, Manley said, because Republicans were trying to introduce unrelated amendments attacking ACORN and the financial-industry bailout, among other things. Stewart countered that Democrats, having attached a hate-crimes measure to a defense-authorization bill, have little room to talk about unrelated amendments. He added that Republicans offered to withdraw several of the objectionable amendments.

It all sounds complicated, but it's simple: Behind all the bickering back and forth sits the reality that the GOP, as the minority party, has the right to slow down the Senate and is fully exercising that right. With days and days of floor time eaten up by a simple extension of unemployment benefits, chances dwindle that the Senate will be able to complete in time the appropriations bills that fund the government.

"What's really going on is that the Republicans are trying to slow-walk everything, to make it as difficult as possible for Democrats to accomplish much," said Manley. "This won't be the first time that they slow things down as much as possible, then vote for final passage. While they are intent on obstructionism, they don't want the blame for opposing popular policies."
